Friday (October 30th)

US History:  Today we had a class debate between the views of Booker T. Washington and WEB Dubois.  I collected the previous day’s homework at the end of the hour.

Psychology:  Today we began looking at the humanistic perspective’s approach to personality.  We began by looking at some general principles of humanism.  Notes can be found here.

Thursday (October 29th)

US History:  Today we are continuing to compare the ideas of Booker T. Washington to WEB Dubois.  We will be reading an excerpt from Dubois’ The Souls of Black Folks.  The excerpt can be found here.

Psychology:  Today we discussed projective tests (notes here). We are now done with the Psychodynamic approach to personality.

Wednesday (October 28th)

US History: Today we began discussing Booker T. Washington & W.E.B. Dubois.  Notes can be found here.  A copy of the Atlanta Compromise Speech that we looked at today can be found here.  No homework for tonight.

Psychology:  We finished The Snake Pit and had a discussion on how psychoanalytic theory applied to Virginia.

Tuesday (October 27th)

US History:  Today we discussed lynching.  If you missed class today, I have an article that can provide you with the important information that was discussed today.  The homework is to write a personal reflection on what we did today in class.

Psychology:  We continued to watch the Snake Pit, and we will finish the film on Monday.  However, even though we haven’t finished the film, you have seen enough to answer the questions on the video guide.  Please have the questions answered on a separate sheet of paper and ready to turn in tomorrow.

Monday (October 26th)

US History:  Today we talked about the development of segregation.  We talked about Plessy vs.Ferguson, and Notes can be found here.

Psychology:  We started watching The Snake Pit, and we will be using psychoanalytic theory to understand the character of Virginia.  Please use the movie handout to take notes.  When you answer the questions, please do so on a separate sheet of paper, and please wait to do so until after the movie on Friday (there are critical scenes that you still need to see).

Thursday (October 22nd)

US History:  We discussed the scenarios in the “Equal Protection Clause”  homework assignment.

Psychology:Today we discussed the Dark Knight and applied psychoanalytic theory to the Joker.  If you were absent, see me for an article on the topic.

Wednesday (October 21st)

US History:  Today we took some notes on Reconstruction.  Notes from today can be found here.  There is no homework for tonight.

Psychology:  We watched clips from The Dark Knight about the Joker.  Tomorrow we will use our notes from these clips to psychoanalyze the Joker!

Monday (October 19th)

US History:  Today we began talking about the history of race relations.  We talked about the compromises over slavery that occured before the Civil War and contributed to the war’s occurrence.  See me for a copy of the notes if you were absent.

Psychology:   Today we went over the defense mechanism homework.  We also broke into groups and created skits based off the defense mechanisms.  We then presented the skits at the end of the hour.

Friday (October 16th)

US History:  Today we talked about white privilege and its effect on our society.  There was no homework for the weekend.

Psychology:  Today we are talking about Freudian defense mechanisms.  Notes can be found here.  There was also a homework assignment on the back of the notes (for which I don’t have a digital copy).  We will discuss this assignment at the beginning of class on Monday.
